Depression Counseling

Depression can affect you or your loved ones at any time. Some people struggle with depression off and on for most of their lives, while others experience life events that bring on feelings of depression such as:

  • loss of a pet or loved one
  • ending or loss of relationship
  • loss of job
  • marital or relationship conflict
  • infidelity
  • body image issues and eating disorders
  • addiction
  • infertility
  • pregnancy
  • postpartum or motherhood
  • stress at work, home, school
  • nutrional imbalances
  • abuse, past or present

Some Symptoms of Depression:

  • loss of interest in activities
  • increased or decreased appetite
  • weight loss or gain
  • increased or decreased desire or need for sleep
  • difficulty concentrating
  • headaches, fatigue or general malaise
  • feeling anxious, sad, irritable, hopeless, worthless, guilty or ashamed
  • withdrawl from friends, family and loved ones

Whether you've been struggling with depression for many years, or are going through a time in your life that is causing you to feel depressed, I hope to be able to help support you in gaining hope and relief from your pain.

I work with my clients with a number of techniques depending on their needs and goals. Some of the techniques or interventions I may use include:

  • tools from DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) such as mindfulness, distress tolerance and radical acceptance;
  • collaboration with other family members/loved ones and professionals as needed (health coaches, naturopaths, MDs);
  • encouragement in various supportive activiites such as groups, yoga, exercise and other activities;
  • and a supportive exploration of past and present relationships that may have you holding onto feelings, beliefs or behaviors that contribute to your feelings of depression.
