Addiction

Addiction comes in many shapes and forms. Some people struggle with drugs and alchohol, food & excercise, sex & relationships, shopping, gambling, working, or even compulsive time spent on the Internet.

Whatever addiction or compulsion you may be dealing with, it is often a way to hide or cover up past traumas or present feelings.

Based on my own professional experience and training, as well as personal struggles, I understand how powerful and all-consuming addictions can be.  Many feelings may arise for you in identifying your struggle including; grief, shame, fear, anger, hurt, resentment, self-loathing, anxiety and depression.

For many, however, the addiction has become such a strong part of their lives that it functions as a way to cope with or cover up emotions. This can make it can be nearly impossible to identify what we are feeling.

I have worked with men, women, adolescents and families struggling with issues of addiction.  Much of my work will focus on helping you to understand what function your addiction or compulsion serves in your life, and how to help heal the wounds beneath them.

Addiction often takes a toll on relationships.  Each person in the relationship may take on a role that functions around the addiction. Unfortunately, when someone begins to free themselves from their addiction, it causes discord in their relationships because of feelings of mistrust, resentment and anger.  I can help support you and your loved ones in redefining your roles with one another by healing from the pain the addiction may have brought with it.

My goal is to help separate you from your addiction; you do not have to be defined by a behavior or mindset. With compassion, patience and understanding, we can work together to help you get your life back.
